On April 23, 2026, the Second Chance Hiring Alliance (SCHA) and the Council for Court Excellence, alongside the Responsible Business Initiative for Justice (RBIJ), hosted Building a D.C. Labor Force that Works: Exploring Opportunities for Second Chance Hiring.

This event, hosted by Deloitte, brought together local business leaders for a powerful conversation on how second chance hiring strengthens businesses and expands opportunity. Panelists Joe Houston, Nan Gibson, Elizabeth Kohm, and Will Avila shared insights on tapping into justice-impacted talent, overcoming challenges, and building strong, loyal workforces. Before and after the event, attendees enjoyed networking, meaningful connections, and a delicious breakfast.

In addition to our panelists, we’re grateful to our other speakers and moderators, including Maha Jweied, Elisa Ortiz, Bard Woltman, Emily Livingston, and Nicole Banister, for making this discussion so impactful.
